Speaker Bio: Alexandra Schnoes, Ph.D.

Alexandra trained as a computational biologist and received her PhD in biophysics from the University of California San Francisco and her BS in chemistry and computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2009 she was the founding Program Manager of the UCSF Graduate Student Internships for Career Exploration (GSICE) program, which, to this day, provides career path education, career planning, career counseling, and internship opportunities to PhD students at UCSF. At the time of its founding, the GSICE program was the only known program in the nation that helped biomedical grad students go on internships outside of the traditional research path. Since 2016 she has been at the Science Communication Lab (formerly called iBiology), and works primarily on creating innovative online professional development courses for scientist trainees. The most recent course she co-directed was "Share Your Research: How to Give a Good Talk," a free 5-week course that guides learners through the steps of creating and delivering a great research talk. Her work at the SCL encompasses a broad range of activities including video production, curriculum development, evaluation & research, marketing, and grant writing.
