In building iBiology Courses, Science Communication Lab and McQuillen Interactive searched far and wide for an open-source, lightweight and developer-friendly solution to host research-oriented online courses… but couldn't find one (read more about the journey here). So we made one!
Now SCL wants to share this platform with the greater scientific community, and you. We’ve worked hard to standardize the software that runs iBiology Courses platform so that it’s useful to other groups that want to create innovative e-Learning courses on a small and manageable platform. The open-source software, called KinesinLMS (Kinesin Learning Management System), is now available on github for your own use.
If you want to learn more about it, including why SCL called it KinesinLMS (do you have a guess?), check out the draft paper we just submitted to the Journal of Open Source Education. We welcome software developers and coders to check the project out, use, and/or contribute!
