Welcome to iBiology Courses Version 2!
This site introduces iBiology Courses Version 2 (iBioV2) -- a new, experimental version of our successful online learning system for iBiology, from the Science Communication Lab. iBioV2 is based on a custom Learning Management System created in our own iBiology labs. You can read more here about why we built our own learning platform.
The iBiology Courses Research Study
When you sign up as a student on iBiology Courses, we ask you to agree to be part of our research study. iBiology Courses is a research study led by Ron Vale, PhD, Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco and Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. What are "Badges" and How Do I Earn Them?
iBiology Courses offers an official course completion "badge" for each course you complete on this website.
Our badges are based on the Open Badge standard and issued by Badgr.com. You can read more about open badges here, but basically a badge is an image you can keep and share that contains official and verifiable information about your accomplishment.
If you opt in to badges (you can opt in or out of badges on the user settings page once you've logged in), you will see your badge on the course 'progress' page when you have met the requirements to 'pass' that course.
